LEARNING SYSTEMS / CONNECTED WITH INTENT01 / 08

The lesson ends. Learning shouldn't get lost.

A learner completes a course. An instructor checks the gradebook. An L&D team needs an accurate record. We design SCORM, xAPI and LTI integrations around that whole journey—so launch, identity, progress and evidence have a defined place to go.

WHERE LEARNING BREAKS

02 / 08

They did the work. Why isn't it showing?

For a learner, a missing completion feels unfair. For a teacher, an empty gradebook means follow-up. For an administrator, mismatched records become an audit problem. An integration needs to protect the human moment behind every status change.

01 / THE LEARNER

“I finished. It still says incomplete.”

Attempt and completion mapping need to reflect what actually happened—not just whether content opened.

02 / THE INSTRUCTOR

“Which attempt am I marking?”

Score, learner identity and gradebook updates need an agreed source of truth and retry policy.

03 / THE TEAM

“Can we explain this record?”

Logging, data ownership and acceptance tests make discrepancies easier to investigate responsibly.

The right design starts by asking who is affected when a record goes missing.

INTERACTIVE / THREE DIFFERENT CONTRACTS

03 / 08

Follow one learning moment. See where the data goes.

SCORM, xAPI and LTI are not three names for the same connection. Select a standard to examine its job, the handoff and the risk to test.

INTEROPERABILITY ARCHITECTURE

04 / 08

One learner experience. Several responsibilities.

A standards label is only the beginning. What matters is deciding which system owns identity, which events count as evidence, and who handles a mismatch.

INTEGRATION CONTRACT / DECISION MAP
A

Who is the learner?

Enrollment, course context, launch permissions, role and stable identifiers.

B

How does the activity run?

Package and player compatibility, attempt lifecycle, context and resume rules.

C

Where does evidence land?

SCORM tracking in an LMS, xAPI statements in an LRS, or supported grade services via LTI.

D

Who resolves exceptions?

Retry and reconciliation logic, secure logs, technical ownership, learner support.

System capabilities and certification must be checked against the specific vendor versions and services in scope.

WHAT DELIVERY HAS TO PROVE

05 / 08

A launch that works once isn't a release.

For an instructor, “it worked on our test account” isn't enough. Integration testing should use real scenarios, assigned owners and traceable evidence.

02Progress semantics

Completed, passed, failed, incomplete and resumed have agreed mappings.

03Attempt integrity

Retakes, duplicate events and retries do not silently overwrite the wrong record.

04Grade handoff

Where supported, a grade is attached to the right learner, course and assessment.

05Operational support

Logs and support paths help humans investigate missing records without exposing unnecessary data.

Open each gate to see what a responsible acceptance test should establish. The final checklist depends on target systems and scope.

SCORM / xAPI / LTI — CLEAR ANSWERS

Questions worth asking before you connect systems.

ANSWER 01 / 08

What does SCORM integration do in an LMS?

SCORM helps compatible course content report status, progress and, where supported, scores to an LMS runtime. The exact behavior depends on the SCORM version, package, LMS player and tracking configuration; validation must cover those combinations.

SCORM / xAPI / LTI — CLEAR ANSWERS

Questions worth asking before you connect systems.

What does SCORM integration do in an LMS?

SCORM helps compatible course content report status, progress and, where supported, scores to an LMS runtime. The exact behavior depends on the SCORM version, package, LMS player and tracking configuration; validation must cover those combinations.

How is xAPI different from SCORM?

xAPI records learning activity as structured statements and typically sends them to a Learning Record Store (LRS). Unlike SCORM runtime tracking inside a traditional LMS player, xAPI can represent a wider range of learning events. Statements do not automatically become course grades.

What is LTI 1.3 used for?

LTI 1.3 provides a standards-based way for an LMS to launch and connect an external learning tool with secure identity and context exchange. Supported LTI Advantage services can add deep linking, roster access and assignment/grade exchange, subject to platform and tool support.

Can SCORM, xAPI and LTI work together?

They can be part of the same learning environment because they solve different interoperability needs. Discovery should map where a learner launches, where activity is recorded and where grades are approved—rather than expecting one standard to replace the others.

Why can completion or scores go missing?

Common causes include unsupported package/player behavior, mismatched attempt IDs, incomplete status mapping, interrupted communication, rejected statements or incorrect grade-service configuration. The specific cause needs logs and repeatable test evidence.

Can an LMS integration support existing courses?

Often, but compatibility cannot be assumed. We would audit the existing course packages, LMS versions, LRS endpoints, LTI tools, user roles and integration permissions before recommending re-use, migration or controlled replacement.

What should be tested before launch?

Test learner launch and authorization, resume and retakes, completion versus success states, duplicate or interrupted events, grade identity, accessibility and relevant privacy/security controls across the actual target platforms.

Does Vyasti guarantee every SCORM, xAPI or LTI tool will work?

No. Interoperability depends on actual vendor support, versions, optional services and security configuration. A responsible project defines the supported combinations, explicit exclusions and acceptance checks before making delivery commitments.

LEARNING SHOULD KEEP ITS PROMISE

Every learner makes progress. Make sure the system remembers.

Missing completions, broken launches or grade data your team cannot trust? Bring the LMS, content and tool constraints. We’ll help map what should connect, how it should behave, and how to verify that it really works.

Clear roles. Defensible records. A more dependable learning journey.
